Greyhounds Edge Cardinals Men’s Lacrosse

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis tied the game before the half and netted the opening two second-half scores to go on for an 8-6 win over Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse.
 
The Cardinals (1-7) started strong with a three-goal opening period as Dereck Downs scored two times. The Greyhounds (3-3) held a 5-4 lead after three quarters, before they found the net three times in the final 15 minutes despite a pair of Jordan Getz goals for the two-goal victory.
 
Jordan Getz and Downs led the WJU offense with two goals and an assist apiece. Matt Lee and Hayden Binnix each added a goal, while Travis Getz assisted on one score.
 
Goalie Jake Lilly stopped 12 UIndy shots.
 
The Greyhounds' Parker Kump totaled a game-high three goals. UIndy outshot WJU, 39-19, but it only had a 20-13 margin on shots on goal.
 
WJU cut the deficit to 5-4 when Lee scored with 1:59 left in the third. UIndy pushed the difference back to three, 7-4, with a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the final period.
 
WJU has over a week off now until it travels to Canton, Ohio to battle Walsh on Saturday, April 1. Match is set for 1 p.m.
