WJU Basketball Preview: Cards Travel to Cavs

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Cardinals enter the David J. Prior Convocation Center looking to collect their second consecutive victory. In the season's first meeting between the Cardinals and Cavaliers, WJU outlasted Virginia Wise in overtime, 88-81, behind Kyle Ritz's 21 points and 12 rebounds. Pat Moseh supplied 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Preston Boswell and Dom Tham each added 14 points while Jarin Hilson scored 11. Virginia Wise received a game high 27 points including six threes from Dimitri Sousa while Taiwo Badmus scored 23 points.

On Saturday afternoon, WJU knocked off Shepherd, 89-66, behind five double-digit efforts. Haywood Highsmith led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds while Moseh added 17 points, Boswell 15, Ritz 14 and Chase Lawson 12. The Cardinals rank third as a group in scoring offense (87.9 points), fifth in scoring defense (76.9 points), and third in scoring margin (+11.0 points).

Moseh continues to guide the Cardinal offense with 15.6 points per contest, 16^th best in the league. The junior forward also secures 5.8 rebounds and dishes out three assists on average. Highsmith adds a double-double average of 14.3 points (23^rd in MEC) and 11 rebounds (2^ndin MEC) to the mix. Boswell has scored in double figures in his last 20 games and now averages 14.1 points on the season. Kyle Ritz adds 12.5 points and 8.3 (8^th in MEC) rebounds per game.

The Cavs enter Thursday with a 2-3 mark over their last five games, including a win over Glenville State on Saturday. Badmus leads Virginia Wise with 21 points and 10.2 rebounds on average, ranking third in scoring and fourth in rebounding. Sousa adds 17.5 points (9^th in MEC) and 4.1 rebounds per game while Michal Seals scores an average of 14.7 points.
