Cardinals Swimmers Celebrate ‘Senior Day’

WHEELING, W.Va. – Anna Davis' two first-place finishes highlighted the Wheeling Jesuit swimming 'Senior Day' Saturday afternoon against West Virginia Tech.

The visiting Golden Bears won both sides of the dual meet – women 91-69 and men 106-69.

Davis and her six senior teammates – Stefanie Boburka, Catie Preskorn, Sloane Glover, Marc Gittings, Zach Hamm and Vincent Zellin – were honored before the meet and final times competing in the McDonough Center Pool.

Davis posted the fastest time in the 100 free (56.73) and was part of the top 400 medley relay with Farida Yahia, Glover and Jade Worrels in 3:35.92. The WJU women also took the 400 free relay (3:55.65) by the group of Yahia, Regan Nolan, Abi Strennen and Kristin Beyerl.

Hamm and Tomas Caixeta claimed one first place apiece to go with a pair of winning relays for the Cardinals men's effort. Hamm touched the wall first in the 50 free (22.87) and Caixeta was first in the 100 fly (52.97).

In the men's winning 400 medley relay, WJU's team of Jake Braumbaugh, Caixeta, Brett Dipuma and Zellin bested West Virginia Tech's team by a tenth of a second (3:35.92 to 3:36.02). Zellin and Caixeta were joined by Colton Claytor and Lucas Rhodes for the best 400 free relay (3:15.36).

WJU wraps up its season this week when it competes at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships from Wednesday through Sunday in Christiansburg, Virginia.
