WJU Basketball Preview: Cardinals Meet Bobcats Saturday 

WHEELING, W.Va. - 

Women's preview:
Wheeling Jesuit travels to Buckhannon, West Virginia Saturday to face the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats. WJU (20-5, 15-5 MEC) enters Saturday with a 4-1 record over its last five games while West Virginia Wesleyan (6-16, 6-13 MEC) has dropped its last eight outings.  
 
In the season's first meeting, WJU nearly doubled up West Virginia Wesleyan, 79-40. Monica Burns helped the Cardinals to a 40-24 first half lead, and finished the game with 16 points. Jaana Motton charted a 12 point and 10 rebound effort while Kylie Frizell finished with 10 points, including a pair of threes. Chenelle Moore added eight points and Mariah Callen added seven points and six rebounds. Rachel Vandertoolen was the lone Bobcat scorer in double figures with 10 points. 
 
The Cardinals have won all seven meetings with the Bobcats since the beginning of the Mountain East Conference in 2013. As a team, WJU leads the MEC in defense, allowing 61.8 points per game while ranking fourth in scoring offense, averaging 72.7 points per game.
 
Monica Burns comes off her season-high 31 points against Glenville State Thursday night. Burns set a new MEC mark at the free throw line, finishing 14-14 on the night. Monica is averaging 16.5 points (5th most in MEC) and 2.8 rebounds on the season. Mariah Callen adds 13.3 points (15th in MEC) and 4.72 assists (5th in MEC) to the mix. Jaana Motton has climbed to 19th in scoring, 12.6 points, while leading the league in rebounding, 9.9 rebounds per game. 
 
Men's preview:
The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals complete their four-game road stretch with a Saturday road trip to West Virginia Wesleyan. The Cardinals (19-6, 13-6 MEC) enter Saturday 2-2 over their last four outings while the Bobcats (12-13, 9-10 MEC) have dropped three of their last five matchups. 
 
In the first meeting of the 2016-17 season, the WJU defense willed its way past West Virginia Wesleyan, 82-73. The Cardinals forced 13 turnovers, leading to 21 points, while committing just six turnovers of their own. Pat Moseh led the way with 19 points on 6-11 shooting. Moseh added seven rebounds and a steal to his totals. Kyle Ritz chipped in 15 points and six rebounds while Preston Boswell scored 13 points. Haywood Highsmith and Jarin Hilson finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Clay Todd finished atop the Wesleyan stat sheet with 18 points and eight rebounds. 
 
The Cardinals have won five of the eight meetings with the Bobcats since 2013. As a group, WJU ranks third in scoring offense, 87.2 points per game, and scoring margin, +9.7 points. 
 
Moseh paces the WJU offense with 16 points while pulling down 5.9 rebounds on average. Haywood Highsmith adds 14.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per night while Preston Boswell gives WJU 14 points and 2.2 rebounds per night. Kyle Ritz completes the double-digit scorers with 12.6 points and 8.1 rebounds.
