WJU Basketball Preview: Cards Travel to Pioneers

WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals travel to Glenville State for their third consecutive road trip. WJU began its current road stint last Thursday with a voyage to Virginia Wise before facing Concord on Saturday, February 11. The Cardinals complete their road stretch with a 4:00 game this Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan.  
 
In the season's first meeting, WJU ran past Glenville State, 104-94, behind six double-digit scoring efforts. Preston Boswell led all scorers with 22 points on 7-11 shooting. Kyle Ritz and Pat Moseh added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Haywood Highsmith scored 13 points, Dominique Tham 12, and Jarin Hilson, 11. Glenville was led by Brook Ely's 20 points, three rebounds and two assists.
 
Since the merging of the Mountain East Conference in 2013, WJU and Glenville State have met seven times with the Cardinals winning the last three meetings to take a 4-3 series lead. WJU's offense scores an average of 87.6 points per night, third most in the league, while the Cardinal defense holds its opponents to 77.2 points, fourth best in the MEC. WJU continues to lead the league in rebounding offense, averaging 42.2 rebounds per outing.
 
Pat Moseh, a junior forward from Springfield, Virginia, paces the Cardinal offense with 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Haywood Highsmith, a junior forward from Baltimore, Maryland, adds a double-double average of 14.5 points and 11.1 rebounds while freshman Preston Boswell, a freshman guard from New Martinsville, West Virginia, scores 14 points per night. Kyle Ritz, a senior forward from Cambridge, Ohio, scores 12.8 points and collects 8.2 rebounds.
 
Glenville State enters Thursday on a two-game win streak, including road victories over West Virginia State and Charleston. The Pioneers rank fourth in scoring offense, 86.5 points, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, fifth best in the MEC. Brett Morris, the reigning Co-MEC Player of the Week, leads the Pioneers with 19.5 points while Terry Davis Jr. scores 16 points per night. Jon Dunmyer scores 13.5 points while Jalon Plummer adds 12.5 points.
