Cardinals Suffer Tough Night Against Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – After a back-and-forth opening 17 minutes, the Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball night turned into a tough one as Notre Dame College took control in the first-half's final three minutes and pushed the difference wider in the second half until a 67-50 final score.

Back-to-back buckets from Cassi Stein and Lauren Lipscomb gave the Cardinals (1-5/0-3 Mountain East Conference) a 12-9 lead seven minutes into the contest. Notre Dame (6-2/3-0 MEC) answered for a three-point first quarter lead, before Mariah Callen downed a 3-pointer to tie the game at 22 apiece with 3:20 in the second 10-minute period. The Falcons, though, scored nine of the last 11 first-half points and did not allow the Cardinals closer than six points one time early in the second half until they kept the lead in double digits.

Callen drained a trio of 3-pointers for a WJU team-high 16-point night to go with four rebounds. Stein added 12 points on 5 of 7 from the floor. Chenelle Moore chipped in 11 rebounds and eight points.

WJU was able to connect on only 16 of 56 attempts from the floor (28.6%) and committed 26 turnovers.

Notre Dame College's Kim Cook led the winning effort with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

WJU returns home to the McDonough Center in a early noon start on Saturday, Dec. 2, against Urban University.
