"Hats off to West Virginia Wesleyan for doing a great job and making the tournament. They did not quit the whole match and went at it strong," said WJU head coach Christy Benner. "I like that number (referring to the .460 hitting percentage). We try to focus on hitting .300 in big matches is our goal.

MEC Freshman of the Year Cassie Meyer paced the Cardinals with 11 kills on 16 swings to only one error (.625) to go with eight digs. Fellow freshmen Kenzie Schroer and Chase Cole added seven and six kills.

Haley Kramer and Maddy Smyth contributed eight and six kills. Audrey Francis led the defense with 12 digs, while Emily Reedy had nine. Stephanie Sylvester chipped in 37 assists, seven digs and three aces.

Madison Cooper led the Bobcats with seven kills.

WJU moves on to face fifth-seed upstart Urbana, which swept past No. 4 Fairmont State, in the prior Quarterfinal.

"Urbana has been playing very well. We just played them in their gym last Saturday in a heated match. Their coach will have them well prepared to beat us and we will have to be ready," added Benner.

In the afternoon matches, No. 6 West Liberty defeated No. 3 Shepherd and No. 2 Charleston made it past No. 7 Concord, both by 3-0 finals.

West Liberty plays Charleston in the first Friday, Nov. 17, Semifinal at 5 p.m. WJU follows against Urbana in the 7:30 p.m. match.
