Cardinals Runs Key in Win over Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – And the Cardinals are back in the win column. Wheeling Jesuit used key runs in each set and took a 3-0 Mountain East Conference volleyball road match at Notre Dame College Friday night.
 
The Cardinals (27-5/15-0 MEC) went from trailing by two points to winning the first set at 25-17 with an 11-1 run. With the Falcons (13-19/4-12 MEC) leading the second set 22-17, the visitors head the call to the tune of a set-ending 8-1 spurt capped by two Emily Reedy service aces and 25-23 final. Tied at 5 in the third set, WJU posted another 11-1 run and blew open the final set to the tune of 25-11.
 
WJU bounced back from being upset on Tuesday night for the 3-0 win.
 
Cassie Meyer continued her strong late-season play with 15 kills with only two errors in 29 attacks for a .448 percentage. The freshman outside hitter added 14 digs and two aces.
 
Stephanie Sylvester guided the offense to 43 assists and six digs. Audrey Francis dug 18 attacks, while Reedy had five to go with her two aces.
 
Haley Kramer added seven kills and three blocks, while Makenna Babb had eight kills and eight digs. Maddy Smyth contributed five kills at a .417 clip.
 
Notre Dame College received 15 kills and 10 digs from Mary Kate McHugh.
 
WJU completes its regular season with a 5:30 p.m. matchup at Urbana University on Saturday, Nov. 11.
