Penn State First-Half Tries Help Defeat WJU Rugby

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Cardinals scored first, but the Nittany Lions score more often Saturday evening. Penn State scored five unanswered first-half tries and held off an early second-half Wheeling Jesuit rally for the 75-47 Division IA Rugby win.

Alex Holden faked twice running over the left wing, decided to hold onto the ball and raced over 30 yards for the try. He added the conversion for the Cardinals' 7-0 lead four minutes into the match. The Nittany Lions rattled off the next five tries over a 27-minute period for a 35-7 advantage.

With 13 minutes elapsed in the second half, Cody Gulasey found paydirt and pulled WJU within 14 points, 47-33. Penn State put back-to-back tries and pushed the margin to 61-33.

For the second week in a row, Inosi Kau paced the Cardinals with a 'hat trick' of three tries.

WJU completes its fall home schedule next Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, against Notre Dame College. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
