CANTON, Ohio –
In its first action of the two-meet weekend, the Wheeling Jesuit University swimming teams took both sides of the dual meet from Malone University Friday night.

The Cardinals women won 112-91, while the men edged out a 101.5-97.5 final from the Pioneers.

"Both teams did an awesome job tonight. They are clicking closer together with every meet," said WJU head coach Jeani Humpe. "

On the women's side, WJU was led by Kristin Beyerl, who took first in the 200 free (2:05.87) and in the 500 free (5:32.95). Farida Yahia also posted a pair of first places in both of her events – 200 IM (2:23.42) and the 200 breast (2:34.26).

"It was another close call on the women's side when Anna Davis outtouched Malone with a 57.31 in the 100 free. Kristin Beyerl and Regan Nolan worked as a team pushing each other throughout the 500 free adding to their one-two finish," noted Humpe. "Farida Yahia added two wins to her career in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke. Finally, in the Women's 200 Free relay, Jade Worrels was neck-and-neck with Malone in the  last leg of the relay and she was able to pull it off and reached for the wall 0.09 ahead of Malone to capture another first place for the women. This was the highlight event of the meet. Both teams were on their feet cheering their team on, waiting to see who touched the wall first," summarized the Cardinals coach.

For the WJU men, Tomas Caixeta lead as he won both of his events – 50 free (21.84) and 100 free (48.1). Alongside of Tomas, Lucas Rhodes grabbed a second in the 200 free (1:47.85) and first in the 500 free (4:57.52).

"We had a couple close races tonight. In the men's 200IM, Nick Sionkiewicz outtouched Malone with a 2:05.53. Tomas Caixeta, Zach Hamm, and Colton Claytor had a trio finish in the 100 free. Lucas Rhodes also brought home a win in the 500 free," finished Humpe.

WJU finishes its weekend with a 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon dual meet at Urbana.
