Cardinals Swimmers Sweep Past Blue Knights

URBANA, Ohio – In the weekend's second dual meet, the Wheeling Jesuit University swimming teams made it a perfect two days with a pair of wins at Urbana Saturday afternoon.

The WJU women posted a 120-73 win over the host and the Cardinals men swam past the Blue Knights, 118.5-56.5.

"The Cards had another great day in the pool with several first and second place finishes. The long two-day road trip from Malone on Friday night to Urbana Saturday afternoon is preparing the team for our four-day conference meet in less than three weeks away. It was a great weekend to be a Cardinal," said WJU head coach Jeani Humpe.

In Saturday's meet, the WJU women were led by Regan Nolan, who won both the 200 free (2:08:23) and 500 free (5:43.01). Jade Worrels took first in the 100 breast (1:13.95), followed by Farida Yahia (1:15.11). In the 100 backstroke, Anna Davis and Kristin Beyerl grabbed first and second to help push the Cardinals to victory.

On the men's side, the Cardinals dominated the top finishers. Lucas Rhodes took the top spot in the 1000 free (1:35.81) and Colton Claytor was first in the 50 free (23.29) with Vincent Zellin (23.61) right behind him. As for the 100 fly, Tomas Caixeta, Brett Dipuma, and Vincent Zellin came first, second, and third.

WJU travels next to Washington and Jefferson next Saturday, Jan. 28th. First even starts at 1 p.m.
