Cardinals Fall to Mountain Lions in MEC Opener

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Despite outshooting the Concord Mountain Lions 21-11 on the day, the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals fell, 2-1, in Tuesday's Mountain East Conference opener.

Concord (1-1) took a 1-0 advantage in the 23^rd minute before WJU (0-2) answered early in the second half. The Mountain Lions were able to answer the Cardinal strike, scoring what would be the game-winning goal in the 59^th minute.

Jenny Soegaard-Andersen scored her second goal in as many games for WJU. The junior forward finished off a loose ball in front of the net just five minutes into the second half (50:35). Nikki Hillard was credited with the assist.

Meghan Horan led WJU with six shots, three of which were on goal. Soegaard-Andersen added four shots and two on goal. Sydney Lavengood fired three shots on the day while Hillard, Kayla Klock and Karly Judy all shot twice. Brianna Murgi and Sarah Blasiman each added one shot to the WJU total.

The Cardinals open their 2016 home campaign with an 8 p.m. matchup against Shepherd University this Friday, September 9.
