Soegaard-Andersen Goal Highlights WJU Women’s Soccer Opener

Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Jenny Soegaard-Andersen's goal in the final seven minutes highlighted the Cardinals women's soccer opening effort. Host Walsh University opened a three-goal lead, before the Wheeling Jesuit score for a 3-1 final.

The Cavaliers (1-0-1) scored in the 30th minute of the opening half and added two more goals in the second half of play. The Cardinals (0-1), though, were only one shot on goal, 6-5, behind the home team for the afternoon.

"We lost to the better team today," said Cardinals head coach Tyler Absalom. "We created some good chances, but couldn't punch one in until the last 10 minutes and, by then, it was too little too late. The positive was we fought to the end and Jenny scored a great goal for us."

Soegaard-Andersen's goal came off a nice pass from senior Meghan Horan's foot.

Sydney Lavengood had two and Sara Blasiman the other WJU shots on goal.

Walsh outshot WJU, 19-10, while the visiting keeper Hannah Thompson made three saves.

The Cardinals travel to face the Mountain Lions of Concord on Tuesday afternoon starting at 2 p.m.
