Cardinals Prepare for MEC Tournament Run

WHEELING, W.Va. – The quarterfinals of the 2016 Mountain East Conference tournament are set. The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team will take the court against the University of Charleston on Thursday, March 3 at 12 p.m.

No. 7 Charleston (13-16, 10-12 MEC) advanced to the second round after defeating No. 10 Shepherd, 84-73, on Tuesday. The No. 2 seeded Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals secured a first-round bye after finishing the season with the second best record in the MEC (23-5, 18-4).

The two teams met twice in the regular season, which each school winning on its home court. Charleston defeated WJU, 68-58, on January 4 before the Cardinals took revenge and knocked off the Golden Eagles, 75-64, in Wheeling on January 30.

The winner of the WJU-Charleston matchup advances to face the winner of No. 3 Notre Dame College versus No. 6 Urbana. The semifinal game will tip off at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.

Mariah Callen – 11.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists per game – Honorable Mention All-MEC
