Cardinals Blank Cavaliers, 24-0

MONTREAT, N.C. – For the second consecutive day, the Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team scored in double figures in the first half and defeated its opponent handedly. On Tuesday, WJU blanked Montreat College, 24-0, after scoring 20 first half goals.

"We are still trying to get over our sickness, as the flu bug has been a member of our team this trip. So, it was nice to come out and get some points on the board early so we could rest some girls in the second half," WJU coach Tim Florence remarked.

Sixteen different Cardinals scored on the afternoon, and WJU managed to outshoot the Cavaliers, 31-3.

"I give credit to Montreat. Being in their first year can be tough, but they fought hard from start to finish. I believe that Coach Ferguson has them moving in the right direction," Florence added.

Senior Jessie Tufnell paced the Cardinals with five goals and two assists. She scored three goals in a three-minute stretch early in the first half.

Paige Plesich supplied the Cardinals with three goals and also handed out two assists.

Elizabeth Hales charted back-to-back impressive days, as she scored twice and assisted on two other goals. Mary Burns also found the back of the net twice for the Cardinals.

Kori Hickman led the 12 Cardinals who scored one goal. The Cincinnati, Ohio native handed out a team-high five assists.

Taylor Quigg added two assists and one score on the day. Olivia Krock, Brianna Wahle and Mia Gilardi each scored one goal and tallied one assist.

Taelor Mailloux, Markie Wright, Holly Deckert, Lyndsay Carpenter, Taylor Booth, Ally Coggins and Danielle Wheeler all scored once for WJU.

Mailloux and Carpenter scooped up three groundballs each. Kate Calder secured two groundballs and caused a game-high three turnovers.

WJU takes a day off before going head-to-head with Belmont Abbey College on Thursday, March 3.
