After allowing 63 second-half points to UVa-Wise Thursday night, WJU (24-1/17-1 MEC) held Concord (16-8/11-7 MEC) to only 33 points in the final 20 minutes and 31-percent (10 of 32) shooting from the floor en route to its 19th-win in a row.

"It was team defense. We stress that it's all about the team. Whether it is on offense or defense, it is five guys functioning as a team," stated Cardinals head coach Danny Sancomb. "Their three guards can really score the basketball. We knew we had to play good defense and we wanted to make Reed play today."

The WJU defense held the Concord offense to its lowest-point total of the season with the 64 points. The home defense also held Reed, who averages 21.5 ppg, to only 10 points, his season-low, on 3 of 18 shooting.

"We have set some high lofty goals for our team, but we have to continue to work hard," added Sancomb.

Haywood Highsmith and Eric Siefert powered the Cardinals' offense with a combined 39 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Highsmith made 6 of 12 attempts for 21 points and missed another double-double by a rebound with nine. Siefert connected on 7 of 15 tries for 18 points, while he added seven assists and six boards.

Guards Pat Moseh and Justin Fritts chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Kyle Ritz added nine points and nine rebounds on the inside.

Jametrius Wade paced Concord with 14 points.

Leading 33-31 at the half, WJU opened the second 20 minutes on 9-2 spurt and never looked back. Highsmith hit a jumper in the lane 15 seconds into the stanza, while Siefert had three points and two assists in the opening three-minute stretch.

The Mountain Lions were held without a second-half field goal until 14:57 left in the game when Cameron Shannon made a running jumper in a 45-36 game.

Highsmith downed his second trey at 16:05 and added a pair of free throws with 14:40 left for a 47-36 contest, and the Cardinals never led by less than double-digits the rest of the way.

Concord started the game strong as it netted eight of the opening 10 points for an early 8-2 advantage. WJU answered back with a 13-0 run over the next 4:50 for a 15-8 lead and did not trail again.

WJU travels up I-79 on Tuesday, Feb. 16, when it plays a non-conference game at Edinboro University. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
