WJU UPDATE: Nationally Ranked Cardinal Basketball Teams Look to Continue Success

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit basketball teams enter Christmas break with both identical records and win streaks, while both WJU teams have also earned respect in the national polls.

The No. 13 ranked WJU men, led by coach Danny Sancomb, enter the break on a three-game win streak, including road wins over Shepherd and Virginia Union and a victory over Gannon in the McDonough Center on December 18.

"I like the direction our team is going," Sancomb added. "We have to continue to work harder and get better. Our leadership has been very good so far."

Points: Haywood Highsmith 15.6, Pat Moseh 14.4, Preston Boswell 13.0
Rebounds: Highsmith 11.6, Kyle Ritz 7.8, Moseh 5.0
Assists: Moseh & Jarin Hilson 3.4, Chase Lawson 3.2

NCAA Division II Men's Rankings

The Cardinal women climbed into the 18^th spot in the latest WBCA Division II rankings. Coach Debbie Buff's three-game win streak consists of conference victories over Fairmont State and Shepherd as well as a road victory over non-conference foe Pitt-Johnstown.

"I am very happy with the teams' effort," Buff remarked. "The girls have worked very hard to gain national respect. I think the polls show how far the program has come, but we will continue to work to get better.

Points: Monica Burns 14.4, Mariah Callen 13.9, Chenelle Moore 12.4
Rebounds: Jaana Motton 9.2, Moore 6.8, Kylie Frizell 4.7
Assists: Callen 4.6, Frizell 2.8, Burns 2.6

NCAA Division II WBCA Rankings

Both WJU squads return to action on Friday, December 30. The Cardinal men travel to Alderson Broaddus University for a 7 p.m. tipoff while the women host the Battlers at 5:30 in Wheeling.
