Cardinals Return Home, Take Care of Greyhounds

WHEELING, W.Va. – After a Saturday road swing, the Cardinals continued their home run Tuesday night. The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team took care of the University of Indianapolis in straight sets, 3-0.
 
The Greyounds (12-13) made an opening set push, but fell short to the Cardinals (29-2), 25-22. WJU opened both the second and third sets ahead and never trailed (25-16, 25-14) to complete the win.
 
The Cardinals hitting trio of Maddy Smyth, Haley Kindall and Emma Schleucher combined for 31 kills and hit .491 in 55 swings. Lauran Graves chipped in eight kills with a .438 attack and four block assists.
 
Andrea Thobe dished each of the home hitters to a tune of 42 assists and two service aces. Kayce Krucki and Breanna Kramer dug eight balls apiece with Sam Obringer seven. Stephanie Sylvester laced a pair of aces from the service line.
 
WJU remains at home on Friday, Nov. 4. The Cardinals host Mountain East Conference member Urbana starting at 7 p.m.
 
vs. UIndy (25-22, 25-16, 25-14)
 
Trailing 20-16, UIndy scored five of the next seven points and pulled within a point, 22-21. Smyth, Schleucher and Kindall downed a kill apiece and finished the 25-22 set.
 
Leading 9-8, WJU rattled off the next six points and opened a 15-8 advantage. The home margin increased to 10 points, 21-11, moments later, before Schleucher slammed the final right side kill.
 
The Cardinals went out to a 10-5 early match lead and increased it to 21-9. The home team wrapped up the match on another Schleucher middle kill and ended the match.
