WHEELING, W. Va. – Dana Achille's walk-off right-field home run sealed Wheeling Jesuit's softball sweep of West Liberty, 8-1 and 4-3, on Tuesday.
The Lady Cardinals (17-17/13-7 Mountain East Conference) struck early for four runs, capped by an Acille two-run homer and they added four more scores in the opening win over the Hilltoppers (16-28/7-16 MEC). After tying the game in the top of the seventh with a home run, West Liberty was one out away from forcing extra frames when Achille blasted her walk-off round-tripper for the WJU game two victory.
Achille went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. Her big day helped WJU to its first sweep since taking a road pair from West Liberty on March 24.
The Lady Cardinals banged out 19 hits in 13 and two-thirds innings. Along with Achille,
Angie Reddick and
Morgan Stohlman also had three hits apiece. Reddick doubled twice and drove in one run, while Stohlman scored two runs.
Lorian Tharp lined a three-run double to highlight game one.

Kelsi Thompson and
Ali Smith contributed doubles.
Mallory Chapman (13-6) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. She gave up three hits for the openers without an earned run and struck out four.
Smith had her own good start as she allowed six hits and two earned runs over seven innings for her fourth win of the year.
For West Liberty, Nicole Chris legged out a run-scoring double in the opener. Allyson Johnson and Kylee Ensign smacked solo home runs in the late game.
Wheeling Jesuit travels to Shepherd for a Saturday twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 In the bottom of the first, Reddick and Scott laced RBI doubles, before Achille made it 4-0 Lady Cardinals with her two-run home run.
WJU extended the margin to 8-0 in the home fourth frame. With the bases loaded, Tharp drove the ball to left field for a three-run double. The Lady Cardinals added an unearned run for the final score.
Chris drove in West Liberty's lone score in the top of the fifth for the eventual final, 8-1.
Game 2 In the bottom of the third, Scott drove the ball up the middle to score two and raced home on a Smith double for a 3-0 home lead.
For the Hilltoppers, Johnson homered in the fourth and they added an unearned fifth-inning run to make it 3-2. With one out in the seventh, Ensign hit a half-swing home run to right field to tie the game, 3-3.
Achille, though, sent the WJU fans home happy. With two outs, the sophomore drove the ball over the right-field fence in walk-off fashion for the 4-3 victory.
