PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Leading 9-7 at halftime, Dushton Doudelet scored three times and led the Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team to a dominate third period against Alderson-Broaddus, for the 18-13 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (6-4) scored the first five second-half goals in the opening 4:30 of the third period and seven of the first eight scores to break open the game, 16-8.
Doudelet netted three of his game-high five goals, including two of the first three scored in the key third period. He also added an assist and two ground balls.
Bryce Brochu also connected on two of his four goals in the same third period.
Sam Horning,
Matt Lee and
Dereck Downs contributed a pair of goals apiece. Horning grabbed five ground balls, Lee assisted on a trio of WJU goals and Downs had one assist.
Luke Gilman dished out two assists.
On defense,
Corey Luebbe scooped three ground balls and caused two turnovers. The Wheeling Jesuit defense allowed only three shots and forced four turnovers in the third period.
Collin Smith saved seven shots in the Cardinal goal for the victory over the first 45 minutes.
Jake Lilly (10:53) and
Kellen McMahon (4:07) posted two and one save in their time in net.
Alderson-Broaddus (2-8) saw Nicholas Williams fired in seven goals and assisted on an eighth for the home team.
Wheeling Jesuit hosts Seton Hill University on Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. on Bishop Schmitt Field.
