WHEELING, W. Va. – After a
Jessie Tufnell goal gave Wheeling Jesuit a 3-2 lead 8:07 into the match, Grand Valley State netted the next six goals over 15 minutes and secured a 21-6 women's lacrosse victory Wednesday night.
Trailing 2-1 in the opening six minutes, the Lady Cardinals'
Elizabeth Hales found the net to tie the match, 2-2. Tufnell followed with her second goal in five minutes and she gave WJU (3-5) the lead, 3-2, two minutes later at 8:07. Grand Valley State (5-4) scored six-straight and 10 of the next 12 goals for the victory.
Hales paced the Lady Cardinals with three goals and Tufnell added two.
Mary Burns accounted for the lone other home score and
Paige Plesich assisted on one goal.
WJU goalie
Maire Austin posted seven saves.
Grand Valley State's Brooke Ingraham led all players with five goals and three assists.
Wheeling Jesuit will be off until it hosts the Mountain East Conference's Shepherd on Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m.
