Wheeling, W.Va. – When the Wheeling Jesuit Men's Basketball team and West Liberty University get together to play a basketball game, the atmosphere is guaranteed to be electric. Saturday's game in the McDonough Center lived up to that billing.
The first half saw Wheeling Jesuit run out to 57-42 lead. Jesuit outshot West Liberty in field goal percentage 58.8% to 50% and three-point field goal percentage 57.1% to 45.5%. The Hilltoppers struggled to handle Jesuit's speed and WJU outrebounded West Liberty 20 to 12.
The second half was a different story. West Liberty hit 54.3% of its shots from the field as Jesuit went cold hitting only 30.6% from the field. The Hilltoppers hit 42.9% of their shots beyond the arc, while the Cardinals hit only 16.7%.
Five Cardinal players scored in double digits. Junior guard
Justin Fritts led WJU with 21 points, three rebounds, six assists, and two steals. It would be the eighth time Fritts would break the 20-point total this season.
Freshman guard
Pat Moseh had 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Freshman forward
Haywood Highsmith had the only double-double of the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Finally, both sophomore forward
Kyle Ritz and junior guard
Eric Siefert had 13 points apiece.
With the loss, the Men's Basketball team finished 6
th in the Mountain East Conference with a 14-8 final regular season record. The Cardinals are now 19-9 overall.
Wheeling Jesuit will now play a Mountain East Conference playoff game at home on Tuesday night at 7pm against Urbana University. The winner advances to the quarterfinal round in Charleston to take on Concord University (20-8 • 15-7) Friday March 6
