Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit University Wrestling program continued its 2014-15 schedule with a dual match against Seton Hill University on Saturday night in the McDonough Center. Wheeling Jesuit snapped Seton Hill's six-match winning streak in a 16-14 thriller on the mat.
The Griffins took a 3-0 lead out of the gate with Mike Soria winning 6-3 in the 125 pound match. Jesuit's
Nolan Whitely and
Preston Bowshier took the next two matches at 133 and 141 to put Jesuit ahead 6-3. The Griffins' Ty Lydic tied the match at 6-6 with a win in the 149 pound weight class. WJU's
Dominick Nania won 8-6 at 157 and

With all the marbles on the line, Wheeling Jesuit Heavyweight
Corey Siegfried electrified the crowd with a 2-1 OT decision win that captured the match for the Cardinals, 16-14.
When people speak of team victories they often do not understand what that really means. There were a lot of factors that came together Saturday evening for Wheeling Jesuit to take home a hard fought victory. Here are a few of the variables that added up to a Jesuit win:
- Bowshier sealed the win with a takedown with :01 on the clock.
- Nania scored a 5 pointer in the last 10 seconds of the match to secure hisvictory. Nania has now won 10 of his last 12 matches.
- For the second year in a row the WJU dual meet with Seton Hill came down to the heavyweight match and Siegfried sealed the win.
"At this point of the year we're looking for our guys to wrestle hard and be very consistent at what is giving them their best opportunity to win at a high level. Tonight was encouraging and at the same time a great resource for us to use as we prepare for the regional tournament in two weeks. Seton Hill battled hard and it was a great back and forth match that Corey finished off for us," stated Head Coach
Sean Doyle.
Impressive is the fact that a program that has only been in existence for two years has posted double digit win totals. The victory improves Jesuit Wrestling's overall record to 10-4 on the season. The loss drops Seton Hill's record to 11-5 on the year.
Jesuit Wrestling will finish up its regular season schedule when it travels to Erie, Pa. on Wednesday February 18
th for a 7pm dual match against Gannon University.
