Jesuit Men’s Basketball Downs Shepherd 78-66, Wins Fourth Straight

Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit Men's Basketball team, fresh off a dominant upset victory over Fairmont State this past Thursday night, looked to stay on their 3-game winning streak when they hosted Shepherd University Saturday afternoon in the McDonough Center.  Four different Cardinals shot in double digits as Jesuit outplayed Shepherd 78-66 to win their fourth straight.

Jesuit outshot Shepherd in the first half 48% to 44%.  WJU also outshot the Rams from 3-point range 47.1% to 25%.  The Cardinals were led by junior guard Eric Siefert and sophomore guard Chase Lawson.  Siefert had nine points, three assists, and one steal in 18 minutes of play. Lawson hit 3 of 4 from the field and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc for 8 points, one rebound, and one assist.

Shepherd made a run in the second half to pull within two, 44-42, on a Steffen Davis jump shot with 15:31 remaining.

Jesuit's Patrick Moseh, Lawson, and Siefert heated up to put Jesuit ahead by 11 points at the 11:26 mark of the second half following a 3-pointer by Lawson.  Roughly 2 minutes later, at 9:31, Jesuit found itself up by 18 points on a pair of Moseh foul shots.

Four Jesuit players once again finished the game in double digits.  Siefert finished with 19 points, two rebounds, and four assists.  Moseh finished the game with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Lawson had 14 points, making 4 of 6 three-point attempts.  Finally, Ritz had 14 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.

"We shared the ball well as a team.  We held them to 41% tonight and our defense is what won the game.  We also got good production off the bench with Chase Lawson having a big night for us.  Eric Siefert, Pat Moseh, and Kyle Ritz did what they do," stated Head Coach Danny Sancomb.

Today's victory moves Jesuit's overall record to 15-8 and 11-7 in the Mountain East Conference.  Jesuit Men's Basketball returns to action this coming Tuesday February 16th, when they travel to Bluefield, W.Va. for a 6:00pm tipoff against the Bluefield State College Big Blues.
