Ray Victory Highlights Cardinals Dual Win over Battlers

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Freshman Clayton Ray scored a decision win over his regionally-ranked opponent and highlighted the Wheeling Jesuit wrestling dual victory, 28-6, over Alderson Broaddus Friday night.

With the win, the Cardinals stayed perfect on the season and improved to 6-0. WJU claimed seven of the nine wrestled bouts and gave Alderson Broaddus (8-1) its first dual defeat of the year.

At 174, Ray produced a 13-10 decision win over the No. 6 Super Region I rated Davis Solak. The freshman's win also was the first of the final four WJU matches won to end the night.

Nolan Whitely (133) and redshirt freshman Terrance Fanning (197) recorded extra points with tech falls victories. Whitely pointed his way to a 20-2 win over the Battlers' Cody Buchanan to give WJU a 5-0 early lead. Fanning shutout AB's Nathan Cunningham, 17-0, for the other visiting tech fall.

Reyse Wallbrown (157), Garrett Reinwald (184) and Corey Siegfried (285) picked up the other decision WJU wins. Damon Outward received a forfeit at 141.

Wheeling Jesuit makes its first appearance in the McDonough Center Sunday. The Cardinals host the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley in a 1 p.m. match.
