WJU Spikes Past Rams

WHEELING, W.Va. – After a fast first set, the Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team kept its string of straight sets victory going with a 3-0 final over Mountain East Conference-member Shepherd University Friday night.
 
The No. 6 Cardinals (22-3/9-0 MEC) went out to a 25-6 first set victory, before they worked 25-17 and 25-12 wins in the other two sets over the Rams (10-12/5-4 MEC). The WJU victory was its 17th-straight match won in three sets.
 
Haley Kindall and Kayce Krucki paced the home attack with eight kills apiece. Sydney Obringer chipped in seven kills. Andrea Thobe netted a double-double with 35 assists and 14 digs, while she had two aces, four kills and three block assists.
 
WJU continues its three-match home week with a 1 p.m. Saturday match against Fairmont State.

In the sets…
The Cardinals netted the night's first five points and eight of the opening nine tallies. WJU never allowed Shepherd into the first set, before Katie Campbell killed the final point, 25-6.
 
The Rams came out with a strong second set. The visitors trailed by only two points, 11-9, midway through the set, but could get no closer. Andrea Thobe aced the final point, 25-17.
 
Leading 4-3 in the third set, Sydney Obringer downed two kills and Emily Blank had one as part of the 6-0 spurt for a 10-3 advantage. A pair of Kindall kills halfway through the set helped put the margin to double figures, 17-7. Allegra Shippy finished the match with her fourth kill of the match, 25-12.
