Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – In the second game of the night, Jesuit Men's Basketball hosted Fairmont State in a high octane Mountain East Conference contest.
Jesuit raced out to a 15-2 lead powered by three 3pt shots, one each by junior guard
Justin Fritts, freshman guard
Drake Goddard, and junior guard
Eric Siefert. Fritts scored 7 points in the first five minutes of play.
Jesuit pushed that lead to 18 points and got into the bonus after Fairmont State witnessed foul trouble at the 12:45 mark of the first half.
Fairmont State battled to pull within 10 points, but a Fritts three pointer at 4:52 pushed the Cardinal lead back to 13 points. Down the stretch, Fairmont State managed to bleed the lead to 8 points, but a three pointer by junior forward
Tim Goff put the Cardinals up 11. Finally, a late turnover gave Fairmont State an easy layup. The Cardinals went into the intermission up 43-34.
The Cardinals were led in the first half by Fritts, who finished with 11 points, three assists, and three rebounds. Fairmont State's Nick Harney finished the half as the Falcons' leading scorer with 15 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The Falcons came out of the gate in the second half and gained the lead 47-46 at 14:40 of the second half on a layup by Jamell Morris. Fairmont State then connected on two three pointers on as many trips down the court and the Cardinals were down by seven.
Fairmont State would push their lead to 10 at the 8:52 mark following a three pointer by Morris and then a turnover and slam dunk by Thomas Wimbush on the in bounds pass.
Fairmont State would never relinquish the lead, hitting seven of 11 foul shots down the stretch to seal the victory, 75-69.
Fritts finished the game as Jesuit's leading scorer with 17 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
Eric Siefert had 14 points, two assists, and nine rebounds.
The loss drops the overall record of the Men's Basketball team to 6-5 and 2-4 in the Mountain East Conference. Jesuit Men's Basketball returns to action on Saturday at 4pm when they host Glenville State in another Mountain East Conference matchup.
