Box Score Urbana, Ohio – Wheeling Jesuit Men's Basketball took a three-game winning streak into Thursday night's game against the Urbana University Blue Knights. Junior guard
Justin Fritts had 24 points and three Cardinal players hit double digits as Jesuit downed Urbana 87-77.
Jesuit went out to a 15-point lead in the first half, before Urbana would rebound to take a 45-43 lead into the intermission.
As the second half began, Jesuit took control of the game when it held Urbana University without a field goal for the first 6 minutes of the second half.
Jesuit outshot the Blue Knights 52.2% to 33.3% in the second half to pull away for their fourth straight victory.
Since returning from injury, Fritts has been on a tear. Tonight's game against Urbana marks the third game in a row the 6'1" 195lb. guard has broken the 20-point plateau. Fritts hit 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and 8 of 13 from the field. He also went 3 of 4 from the foul line and posted three rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of play.
Junior forward
Tim Goff went 5 of 8 from the field and 1 of 3 from three-point range, made 3 of 3 from the foul line, and hit the glass for five rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Kyle Ritz rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Cardinals. Ritz, who averages 11.2 points per game, hit 4 of 7 from the field, pulled down seven rebounds, and posted three assists and three blocked shots.
Finally, junior guard
Eric Siefert had seven points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals in 34 minutes of play.
"We had a good team effort again tonight. We are playing at a high level and we need to continue to play at a high level as we continue through the Mountain East Conference," stated Head Coach Danny Sancomb.
Wheeling Jesuit improves its overall record to 9-7 and 5-6 in the Mountain East Conference. Jesuit Men's Basketball returns to action when it travels to Institute, W.Va. to take on West Virginia State University this coming Saturday January 31
st at 4pm.
