Jesuit Women’s Basketball drops 78-60 decision to Shepherd

Box Score Shepherdstown, W.Va. – Jesuit Women's Basketball went on the road this past Saturday to face Shepherd University, the current number one team in the Mountain East Conference.  Despite having three players score in double digits, Jesuit lost to Shepherd 78-60.
 
When you face the number one ranked team in your conference you have to be on the top of your game.  Jesuit shot only 28.6% in the second half and 35.1% for the game. 
 
Jesuit battled to the game 26-26 with 8:23 left in the first half, but faltered down the stretch to go into the intermission down 41-34.  Shepherd University played a consistent brand of basketball hitting 47.2% of its shots in the first half and 48.1% of its shots in the second half.
 
Sophomore forward Jaana Motton had the only double of the game for the Cardinals.  Motton posted 10 rebounds and 17 points with two assists and one steal.  She also connected on 3 of 4 foul shot attempts.
 
Junior guard Breanna Butler added 14 points and two assists, while junior guard Jaila Bryant posted 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
 
The loss drops the WJU Women's Basketball's overall record to 8-5 and 5-4 in the Mountain East Conference.    The Cardinals continue their stretch of tough MEC play when they travel to crosstown rival West Liberty, currently the #2 team in the Mountain East Conference, on Wednesday January 22nd for a 5:30 pm tipoff.
