Wheeling Jesuit Men’s Basketball loses to WV Wesleyan 69-47

Box Score Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit Men's Basketball team traveled to Buckhannon, W.Va. Monday night for another Mountain East Conference contest against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats.  West Virginia Wesleyan defeated the Cardinals 69-47.
 
As the game unfolded, it turned into a defensive struggle for both teams.  West Virginia Wesleyan held a slight advantage in shooting percentage in the first half outpacing Wheeling Jesuit 34.8% to 33.3%.  The Bobcats went into the half up 26-22. 
 
The defensive trend continued in the second half as WJU slightly outpaced West Virginia Wesleyan 34.5% to 33.3% in shooting percentage.
 
The difference in the game found its roots in three-point percentage and foul shooting percentage.  West Virginia Wesleyan connected on 46.2% from beyond the arc, while Wheeling Jesuit hit just 27.3% of their three-point attempts.  From the foul line, the Bobcats shot 93.9%, including hitting 23 of 23 foul shots in the second half.  Jesuit shot 38.5% from the foul line. 
 
The one bright spot in the game for the Cardinals was the play of junior guard Eric Siefert.  Siefert finished the game with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 25 minutes of play.
 
The loss drops the overall record of Jesuit Men's Basketball to 6-7 and 2-6 in the Mountain East Conference.  Wheeling Jesuit returns to action this coming Saturday when they travel to Shepherdstown, W.Va. for another MEC contest against the Shepherd University Rams.  Game time is set for 4pm.
