Box Score Buckhannon, W.Va.– Three Lady Cardinals reached double digits as the Jesuit Women's Basketball team rolled into Buckhannon, WV and came away with a 77-50 victory against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats.
Kylie Frizell, a sophomore guard averaging 8.1 points per game, had her best performance of the season. Frizell hit 7 of 10 field goal attempts, went 5 of 5 from beyond the arc, and connected on both of the foul shots she attempted for 21 total points. Frizell also added six rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 26 minutes of play to lead the Cardinals.
Sophomore forward
Jaana Motton played strong in the paint, scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds as Wheeling Jesuit went out to a 20 point lead at the half, 38-18.
Finally, junior guard
Breanna Butler rounded out the WJU double-digit scoring against the Bobcats. Butler added 11 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the victory.
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Mari Stewart, who had 16 points, three rebounds, and four steals in 27 minutes of play.
Jesuit shot 60% in the second half, shot 83.3% from the foul line, and finished the with 39 points off the bench as the Cardinals stretched their lead to win by 27 points as the final horn sounded.
The Cardinals showed their resolve on defense holding West Virginia Wesleyan to 23.1% from the field in the first half and 33.3% for the game. Jesuit finished with a 22 to 14 point advantage in the paint while posting 19 points off turnovers to West Virginia Wesleyan's 10.
"We had a solid defensive effort on the road tonight against West Virginia Wesleyan. As a team, we shot 60% in the second half and our bench gave us 38 points. We shot
80% from the foul line in the game. These are all good signs that we are playing a good brand of basketball right now. I am encouraged as we have a tough stretch of games coming up," stated Head Coach Deb Buff.
The win brings WJU Women's Basketball's overall record to 8-4 and 5-3 in the Mountain East Conference. The Cardinals return to action this coming Saturday January 17
th when they travel on the road to Shepherdstown, W.Va. to take on Shepherd University at 2pm.
