Box Score 2 Canton, Ohio, September 27, 2014 -- Wheeling Jesuit Volleyball traveled to Canton, Ohio to play a tri-match today against Saginaw Valley University and Malone University on the campus of Malone University.
In the Cardinals' first match of the day against Saginaw Valley, WJU had a .390 hitting percentage while holding Saginaw Valley to .108. Wheeling Jesuit defeated Saginaw Valley in three straight sets – 25-20, 25-16, and 25-9.
The Cardinals were led by sophomore outside
Kayce Krucki, who had 17 kills, four digs, one ace, and two block assists, while finishing the match with a .571 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Middle
Emma Schleucher had eight kills and hit .615, while junior right side
Emily Blank added five kills and hit .625, and sophomore middle
Haley Kindall finished off SVSU with nine kills and four blocks.
In the backcourt, senior defensive specialist
Makenzie Ripley had 13 digs just besting junior outside
Jessica Thobe, who had 11 digs herself. Sophomore setter
Andrea Thobe set the ball all day to her teammates tallying 40 assists and a .390 hitting percentage.
Later in the day, Wheeling Jesuit faced the Malone Pioneers in the last game of the tri-match. Wheeling Jesuit defeated Malone in three straight sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-12.
Krucki picked up with Malone right where she left off with Saginaw Valley. Against Malone, Krucki had 12 kills, nine digs, and three block assists. Schleucher posted nine kills of her own with one service ace and one block assist. Kindall had eight kills, one dig, two blocked shots, and two block assists.
The Cardinals got good play out of freshman outside
Maddy Smyth, who has emerged as a hard-hitting role player for WJU. Smyth played in all three sets against Malone and had nine kills, and one dig on the day.
Senior middle
Rachel Caja rounded out the Cardinals' scoring. Caja had four kills, one blocked shot, and one block assist and a .571 hitting percentage in the victory.
Wheeling Jesuit out hit Malone .340 to .128 in the match. The two victories bring WJU's record to 14-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Cardinals return to MEC play when they travel to West Liberty University on Tuesday night, September 30
th, for a 7:00 p.m. match between the two Wheeling, WV rivals.
