Box Score Wheeling, WVa. – On one night's rest, Jesuit Volleyball played West Virginia State University Saturday at 1pm. Wheeling Jesuit improved its record to 10-1 and 2-0 in the Mountain East Conference with a convincing victory over the Yellow Jackets winning 25-11, 25-18, and 25-19.
In general, the less a team has to move on the volleyball court the better chance they have to win. In the first set, West Virginia State scrambled to handle the barrage of kills and could not get over the block. Consequently, the Yellow Jackets had to move a lot. Wheeling Jesuit's team attack per percentage registered at 51 percent while the Yellow Jackets hit only 2 percent.
The Cardinals were led by sophomore middle
Haley Kindall who had six kills and three digs in the set. Freshman outside
Maddy Smyth added 3 kills, one dig, and two block assists, while senior middle
Rachel Caja contributed 2 kills, one dig, and one block assist. Sophomore setter
Andrea Thobe had 13 assists in the set to get the Cardinals off to a good start.
Jesuit ratcheted it up the pressure in the second set. Through two sets, Kindall herself had a .733 hitting percentage with 11 kills, five digs, and 2 block assists. Smyth added six kills, four digs, and three block assists. Sophomore middle
Emma Schleucher finished it off with a .667 hitting percentage on 6 kills, two assists, and one dig.
In the third set,
Maddy Smyth had two big kills to give the Cardinals their 18
th and 19
th point of the set after a 17-17 tie. The Cardinals didn't relinquish the lead sweeping the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets.
