#9 CARDINALS DROP THE VULCANS IN THREE STRAIGHT SETS

Box Score Wheeling, WVa. – The #9 ranked Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals came out of the gate like a shot out of a cannon against regional opponent California University of Pennsylvania.  Two straight blocks by Hayley Kindall and Andrea Thobe got the Cardinals off to a 4-1 start in the first set.  Cal U never recovered in the first set with 6 service errors.  In the end, Kayce Krucki would hit a cross-court shot to finish off the set 25-15.

Wheeling Jesuit reloaded the cannons in set #2 winning the set 25-16.  Haley Kindall took control of the set with 4 kills and a couple of blocks.  Emma Schleucher had two big hits from the outside to put the ball down on the Vulcans, giving the Cardinals their 18th and 19th point in the set.   WJU would never look back.

It was the Jessica Thobe show in the third set.  Thobe, a junior junior college All-American transfer from St. Clair College in Dayton, OH and the sister of setter Andrea Thobe, blistered the ball from the left side and Cal U could not handle her.  Eight Thobe shots would score for the Cardinals.  What ensued was a complete rout in the third set, with Wheeling Jesuit winning 25-11.

The win propels the Cardinals to an 8-1 record, while California University of Pennsylvania drops to 6-3.

Wheeling Jesuit's ranking at #9 in the nation after the AVCA's week two NCAA Division II Volleyball ranking reaches another milestone in the program's history.  The ranking marks the first time in school history that the volleyball program is ranked in the Top Ten in the nation during the regular season.

The Cardinals return to action Friday night against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles in the first Mountain East Conference play of the year.  Gametime is set for 7pm in the McDonough Center.
