Christy Benner's squad began the second day of the Wheeling Jesuit University Invitational against the Long Island University Post Pioneers. Long Island University and the Cardinals are no strangers to one another with both teams making the NCAA Elite 8 last year in the 2013 NCAA Division II Volleyball playoffs.
Coming into Saturday's matchup, LIU Post was riding high on three previous victories in the Invitational. Wheeling Jesuit University ended that run beating the visiting Pioneers in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-11.

Haley Kindall led the Cardinals with 11 kills, 1 dig, 1 blocked shot, and an impressive .400 hitting percentage. Right behind Kindall, was junior outside hitter

Jessica Thobe had 9 kills, 2 assists, and 11 digs. Schleucher had six kills, three service aces, 2 digs, and led all players on the court with a .556 hitting percentage. When you add 34 assists from sophomore setter
Andrea Thobe and 17 digs from senior defensive specialist
Makenzie Ripley it all added up to a long day for LIU Post. With Wheeling Jesuit winning in the first set 13-9, Ripley made two tremendous digs that led to two Wheeling Jesuit points and the Cardinals never looked back.
Wheeling Jesuit played back-to-back matches and finished the Invitational against the LeMoyne College Dolphins. The Dolphins played valiantly in the first set before eventually losing the set 25-22. The next two sets were a different story as Wheeling Jesuit continued to unload the arsenal winning the second set 25-6 and the third set 25-12.
Against LeMoyne, the Cardinals played a number of new faces. Freshman outside hitter
Maddy Smyth had 8 kills, 3 digs, and one block assist. Sophomore middle
Katie Campbell had four kills, one assist, and three digs. Senior outside hitter
Corrin Early had seven kills and 11 digs. Senior middle
Rachel Caja led the team with a .312 hitting percentage including seven kills, one blocked shot, two block assists, and one dig. Even with the new faces behind the net, senior libero
Makenzie Ripley was stellar with 16 digs, while senior setter
Andrea Thobe set up the troops with 32 assists in the victory.
Earlier in the day, Long Island University Post beat Lock Haven University in four sets: 25-19, 25-27, 27-25, 25-19. Shepherd University beat LeMoyne College 26-24, 25-17, 25-23.
With the three wins over the weekend, the Cardinals push their record to 7-1. Wheeling Jesuit University returns to volleyball action on Tuesday night in the McDonough against familiar regional foe, California University of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 7pm.
