Fredonia, New York - Jesuit Men's and Women's Swimming won The Blue Devil Invitational this past weekend. The Cardinals wrapped up the final day of competition with the women coming from behind in the final 3 events to overcome a 23 point deficit to defeat Oberlin College 731 to 699. The men increased their lead over Penn State Behrend winning the men's division 752.5 to 683.
The turning event was the 100 butterfly as the women placed 4 in the finals and the men placed 5, turning the tide for the women.
Rachel Yontz swam to victory with a 4:40.73 in the 400 IM. And
Amber Saint Clair won the 100 back in 58.73.
The Cardinals' 400 free relay team of
Anna Davis,
Jade Worrels,
Danielle Pekular, and Saint Clair set a new school record with a 3:36.94.
The men's team victory was highlighted by two new school records and two more NCAA National Championship "B" qualifying times. "Kuba" Skrzypczak won his 3
rd individual event in record form with a blistering 3:59.32 in the 400 IM, His time was also a Steele Hall Natatorium Record.
Jakub Swierczynski won his 2
nd individual event with a school and pool record and a NCAA "B" cut in the 200 breaststroke in 2:02.34.
Jandre Strauss followed closely behind for a Jesuit 1-2 punch.
Vincent Zellin led the men in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 51.59 and another 1-2 finish with Brett Dipuma taking 2
nd, followed by
Eric Pietz (5
th 54.21),
Zach Hamm (6
th 54.28), and
Shane Talley (7
th 54.62).
In the women's 100 fly,
Sloane Glover and
Alexis Anderson swam a 2-3 finish with a near tie at 1:00.74 and 1:00.75. Steff Boburka (5
th 1:02.06) and
Maria Palmquist (8
th 1:02.93) rounded out the events as nine Cardinals visit the podium in one event.
The men's 400 free relay of Kuba, Skrzypczak, Strauss, and Zellin won in a pool record performance of 3:08.22.
The team next hosts Indiana University of PA on December 18
th. It will be the program's Senior Recognition meet honoring our seven graduating seniors.
