Wheeling, W.Va. – Top-seeded Wheeling Jesuit University (36-3) defeated the Seton Hill Griffins (32-5) 3-0 in the second semi-final match of the night in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament.
Kayce Krucki led Wheeling Jesuit with 13 kills, seven digs, and two blocks.
Haley Kindall had 11 kills, seven blocks, and hit .526 in the match. Finally, Schleucher finished the match with 12 kills, and three service aces.
Kyllo finished the match with 12 kills, three digs, and four blocks for the Griffins.
Right out of the gate, Wheeling Jesuit earned the first seven points of the first set. Jesuit dominated the first set, never allowing Seton Hill to breathe. Wheeling Jesuit hit .343, winning the first set 25-19.
The Cardinals were led by
Kayce Krucki and
Jessica Thobe, who each had five kills in the first set.
Shelby Kyllo had six kills and two blocks in the first set for the Griffins.
The second set was close until
Emma Schleucher put Jesuit up by five points. Seton Hill never recovered losing the set, 25-21. Schleucher had three kills and two blocks that turned the set.
Haley Kindall also had three kills and four blocks in the second set to lift the Cardinals past the Griffins.
Seton Hill battled to stay in the match in the third set. The Griffins actually had a 3 point advantage at 20-17, but WJU took the next five of seven points. Wheeling Jesuit won the last three points of the set to win 25-22, eliminating the Griffins in three straight sets.
The Cardinals move on to tomorrow night's Atlantic Regional Tournament Championship against California University of Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 7pm in the McDonough Center on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University.
