Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – In the second match of the day for Wheeling Jesuit, the Cardinals hosted Davis & Elkins College at 5pm in the McDonough Center. Davis & Elkins just came off a three set victory over Notre Dame College, winning 25-13, 25-22, 25-20.
Sophomore middle
Emma Schleucher maintained serve and got the Cardinals off to a 6-2 lead right out the gate in the first set. The Cardinals would never look back winning the first set 25- 7. Sophomore setter
Andrea Thobe served 10 straight times in the set. Wheeling Jesuit hit .303 to Davis and Elkins -.235.
In the second set, Davis & Elkins strained to tie the game at 6-6. Jesuit would win the next point and never relinquish the lead, winning the second set 25-16. After two sets seven different Jesuit players had registered at least one kill in the match. Sophomore middle
Haley Kindall led Jesuit with six kills and four digs.
Fittingly, all three seniors had a significant role in the third set for the Cardinals. To begin the third set, senior defensive specialist
Corrin Early served six straight times to get Jesuit off to another 6-0 lead. Later in the set, senior defensive specialist
Makenzie Ripley served the ball ten times in a row to put Jesuit up 24-5. And senior middle
Rachel Caja finished the set with a kill at the middle of the net to finish the third set 25-5.
The win brings Wheeling Jesuit just one victory shy of the 30 win mark with a 29-3 overall record and 13-0 in the Mountain East Conference. The Cardinals go on the road to close out the season with the three straight MEC contests in the coming week. Jesuit travels to West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday, Shepherd University on Friday, and then Fairmont State on Saturday.
