Buckhannon, W.Va., Nov. 8, 2014 -- The Cardinals score double victories Saturday in Men's and Women's Swimming over Mountain East Conference rival West Virginian Wesleyan College. The women won 107-98 and the men won 133-67.
Three Cardinals earned double individual victories in Saturday's contest. Junior,
Jandre Strauss, swept the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke in 2:01.83 and 1:00.36 respectively. Freshman
Jakub Swierczynski won the 1000 free and 500 free competitions in 10:31.34 and 5:02.77. Freshman
Vincent Zellin brought home victories in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events with a 22.48 and 49.78. Freshman
Brett DiPuma added a win in the 100 Butterfly.
The women were led with double victories by Freshman
Amber Saint Clair in the 1000 Free and the 100 Backstroke in 11:22.57 and 1:02.56 respectively. Juniors,
Sarah Peters,
Vanessa Gipson and
Alexis Anderson each scored victories in the meet. Peters won the 500 free, where she posted a season best time of 5:41.10. Gipson added a win in the 200 Free, recording a 2:02.76 and Anderson won the 100 Butterfly, swimming to a 1:01.49.
Freshman
Jade Worrels and Sophomore
Danielle Pekular rounded out the victories with a winning swim of 26.00 in the 50 Free by Worrels and a 2:17.61 by Pekular in the 200 IM.
And the men teamed up to win both relay events. Skrzypczak, Strauss, Dipuma, and Senior Pete Scharf won the Medley in 1:37.85, and sophomore
Zach Hamm, joined "Kuba" Skrzypczak, Swierczynski, and Zellin for the victorious 200 Free Relay in 1:28.48.
The Cardinals will face perennial PAC power, Grove City College, next Saturday in a dual meet at GCC.
