Jesuit Volleyball Wins Both Matches During Saturday’s Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 3282Wheeling, W.Va. – In game one of the volleyball tri-match at Wheeling Jesuit  University on Saturday, the Cardinals continued their winning ways defeating Shepherd in three straight sets 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.
 
Tied 16-16, the Cardinals rose above the Rams on three crucial plays in the first set – a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kayce Krucki, a service ace by sophomore defensive specialist Samantha Obringer, and a dump again by Krucki.  The Cardinals went on a five-point run that provided the power to finish off the Rams 25-20.
 
The Cardinals controlled the next two sets.  Sophomore middle Emma Schleucher was dominant for WJU with 13 kills, two digs, two block assists, and a .550 hitting percentage.  Kayce Krucki was right beside her with 11 kills, 10 digs, and one block assist.  And from the middle, sophomore Haley Kindall finished with eight kills, one dig, two block assists, and a .375 hitting percentage.
 
Sophomore setter Andrea Thobe set the squad all day with 37 assists, two digs, and two block assists, while Obringer played well in the back court with 11 digs and three service aces at critical times during the match.
 
Wheeling Jesuit played workman-like in the final match of the day against the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus College.  Jesuit bested  Alderson Broaddus in three straight sets 25-12, 25-18, and 25-16.
 
Kayce Krucki led the Cardinals with 11 kills, seven digs, and two block assists.  Haley Kindall was right behind her with 10 kills, two digs, one blocked shot, six block assists, and an impressive .500 hitting percentage.   Freshman outside Maddy Smyth finished with 10 kills and one dig, while Emma Schleucher added eight kills, three assists, two digs, one block, and one block assist.
 
The Cardinals hit .333 in the third set against Alderson Broaddus.
 
The two wins on the day improved Jesuit's record to 18-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the Mountain East Conference.
 
The Cardinals return to action Tuesday night, October 7th, for a pivotal regional matchup against Clarion University.  Game time is set for 7pm.
