Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – On Halloween night, the #12 Jesuit Volleyball program hosted the Blue Knights of Urbana University in the McDonough Center. Urbana entered the match with a 9-4 mark in the Mountain East Conference and 13-13 overall. Wheeling Jesuit defeated Urbana in three straight sets.
The Cardinals seemed ready to return back to the friendly confines of the McDonough Center hitting .364 in the first set to put Urbana immediately on its heels. Sophomore middle
Haley Kindall had five kills, one dig, and one block, while sophomore outside
Emma Schleucher put down four kills, had three service aces, and had a perfect 1.000 percent hitting percentage. The Cardinals ran away with the first stanza 25-12.
In the second set, freshman outside
Maddy Smyth caught fire launching rockets from the left side and playing perhaps her best set in her young career. Smyth had three kills, one dig, and four blocks as the Cardinals rolled through the Blue Knights 25-8 in the second set.
In the third set, Coach
Christy Benner played the entire roster as Jesuit once again dominated play, winning 25-11. Senior defensive specialist
Makenzie Ripley added 11 digs to her record-setting career total, while sophomore setter
Andrea Thobe had 27 assists, two digs, and two blocks. Wheeling Jesuit outhit Urbana .273 to -.125 and totaled 11 team blocks.
The Cardinals return to action tomorrow in their last two home games of the regular season, as they host a tri-match against Davis & Elkins College in non-conference action and Notre Dame College in MEC play. Jesuit squares off against the Notre Dame College Blue Falcons at 1pm and then returns to play the Senators of Davis & Elkins College at 5pm.
