Jesuit Women's Soccer Battles But Comes Up Short

Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. -- On a crisp fall evening, the Wheeling Jesuit University Women's Soccer team took on conference rival, the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats, on Bishop Schmitt Field.

The first half was played end to end as both teams raced into attack mode.  The first great chance for WJU happened when sophomore midfielder Megan Horan took a corner kick and junior forward Aubrey Hutchinson got a clean shot on goal beating the Wesleyan Goalkeeper, but was denied by a defender on the goal line.  Cardinals' junior goalkeeper Holly Kraus made a few key saves before the break to take the game into halftime 0-0.

The second half started the same as the first with end to end action.  The Bobcats goal came from deep in the corner, in the 68th minute, the ball squirted across the box and Colette Biondi beat the Cardinal defender to the ball pushing it into the net at the near post.

The Cardinals continued to fight all the way to the end, creating chance after chance in the final 5 minutes of play.  Head Coach Carrie Hanna said, "I am proud of the effort and the fight, we just need to execute better."   The game ended with a final score of 1-0 in favor of the Bobcats.

The Wheeling Jesuit University Women's Soccer team will be back in action Saturday, October 4th as they travel to cross-town rival West Liberty University.  The match kicks off at 1:00pm.
