Box Score Shepherdstown, W.Va. -- In a torrential downpour, the Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Soccer team took on MEC Conference opponent Shepherd University Rams. Although the weather was gloomy, the Cardinals play shined bright as they dominated the game early on.
As the Rams absorbed pressure, trying to sit in and counter attack, the Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the 21
st minute. Sophomore Center back
Shaan Stuart drove a long ball over the Rams back line and freshman forward
Trey Tucker chipped the Shepherd Goalkeeper. Less than 10 minutes later WJU struck again, this time the goal came off of a free kick. A driven ball to the back post was met by junior defender
Sean Murphy. Murphy then knocked the ball back in front of the goal for junior midfielder
Vincent Faraji to slot it away for a 2-0 score line. The game went into the half at 2-0.
After the break, the Cardinals again dominated the play creating several 1-on-1 chances to put away the game, but the SU goalkeeper made the saves. The last good scoring chance was with less than 10 minutes left in the game, when Faraji put two shots on frame forcing a double save from the Rams Goalkeeper.
The game ended with a final score of 2-0. Wheeling Jesuit University Head Coach Jim Regan said "it was good to score early and play well to get the result on the road. We will take that positive result with us into our next conference match this weekend."
