Box Score Urbana, Ohio – On the road at an extremely windy site, the Wheeling Jesuit University Women's Soccer team took on the Urbana Knights in a MEC Conference matinee. The game started vigorously as both Urbana and Wheeling Jesuit created speedy attacks, one after the next.
The Cardinals created the first great chance of the match as the ball was played through the Urbana defenders. Cardinal players got several shots off as the ball bounced in front of the goal, eventually senior midfielder
Olivia Vanhoose missed just wide on a volley attempt. The Cardinals dominated possession in the first half, but went into the break tied at 0-0.
During the second half the play was open but was largely dominated, again, by the Cardinals. Senior forward
Allison Geary and junior forward
Aubrey Hutchinson, along with their teammates in the midfield, created several solid efforts in the second half but came up short. The game headed into overtime for the 6
th time this season for the WJU Women's Soccer program.
Overtime resembled the majority of the game, where the Cardinals dominated the play but could not find the back of the net. In the 101
st minute, arguably the best chance of the match, Vanhoose rattled a shot off the crossbar and the rebound was called offside. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Wheeling Jesuit University Women's Soccer team gets back in action Saturday October 11th, at home, against conference opponent Notre Dame College. Kickoff is at 4:30pm on Bishop Schmitt Field.
