Lady Jackets Sting Cardinals in Home Opener

Box Score
The Wheeling Jesuit Women's Soccer team opened their fall season at home on Thursday against Ceaderville University at James LaRosa Stadium and came away on the wrong end of a 5-0 trouncing by the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Ceaderville rode the momentum of two early goals to carry them through to the victory.

The Lady Jackets indeed came storming out of the blocks at Jesuit's home opener when #27 Grace Miorelli put a lob shot in from the top of the box that dropped in the net like a basketball 3-point shot. Just like that the Lady Jackets found themselves up 1-0 in the first minute of play.

The Cardinals found it tough earning field position, having to defend for much of the next 5 minutes when Ceaderville struck again. This time it was #4 Carly Gregory who again put up another lob shot from long distance to find the back of the net.

The shots on goal count told the rest of the story for the Cardinals in the first half. Ceaderville held a commanding 11-1 advantage of shots on goal. Starting Cardinal goalkeeper Holly Kraus had strong saves, but allowed two goals on the scoreboard.

The Lady Yellow jackets found the back of the net yet again, five minutes into the second half with #15 Kaleigh Rowlands beaming a free kick in from outside of the eighteen, right to the foot of #3 Jacoby Ziegler who poked it past the Cardinals defense.

Coming off of the adrenaline high of her goal #3 Ziegler had four near goals, putting up shots from all over the map. Following her lead in the 27th minute #10 Kristy Wolf had a cross to the left field where #14 Elise Hurly was waiting patiently for the header into the open goal.

Hurly's goal was not to be outdone by #10 Kristy Wolf just a few minutes later to finish the scoring, and give the visitors the 5-0 victory.

WJU returns to action at 11 A.M. on Sunday when they take on Chowan University at home.
