Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team used every second of the game in an attempt to defeat the visiting Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus College at the Alma Grace McDonough Center on Thursday evening. The Cardinals held a slight edge deep into the game, but the back-and-forth battle ended up in AB's favor, 75-72.
Justin Fritts and
Ben Siefert led the Cardinals' offensive efforts with 19 and 18 points, respectively, each shooting 8-for-15 (53 percent) from the floor.
Recardo Gaddy followed with 16 points, and
Joe Prati just missed a double-double with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Tim Goff and
Eric Siefert added four points apiece while
Andre Harris had one.
The tightly played game featured 10 tied scores and nine lead changes before the final buzzer sounded. With 5:22 remaining in the epic battle, Fritts drove the lane to give the Cardinals a one-point, 67-66, advantage. Prati split a pair of free throws for a two-point differential, and AB followed with 1-of-2 shots from the foul line, 68-67.
On the ensuing possession, Jesuit missed the mark, and after securing the rebound, the Battlers called timeout with 1:07 left to play. AB connected witha long distance shot when play resumed to take a 70-68 lead, however, Jesuit tied the game the next trip down the floor when
Eric Siefert found Fritts cutting through the lane. AB scored the next three points, and the two teams traded points the rest of the way.
After the initial 20 minutes of play, Alderson-Broaddus held a 47-39 advantage in a half that showcased seven ties and seven lead changes. The Battlers held a slight 37-36 advantage on the glass.
Kurklin Bohanon led the Battlers with 16 points, while Johnathan Ferguson, Roy Brown and O'Dell Eargle each chipped in 13 points.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Saturday, January 12 against Ohio Valley University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
