Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team improved to 4-1 in WVIAC play and 6-4 overall after defeating the visiting Mountain Lions of Concord University,2-0, at James LaRosa Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals didn't waste any time finding the back of the net on Saturday afternoon as
Luke Roan scored the first goal within the first two minutes of play.
Nicolay Netskar initiated the Cardinals' opening goal, taking the ball to the right side of the box and crossing back to the left to Roan. Without hesitation, Roan received the pass and sent the ball into the top right corner.
Roan found the net again in the 55th minute after
Philip Mshelbwala led him to the net. Mshelbwala captured possession of the ball near midfield and took the ball to the top of the box, drawing the defenders, while Roan trialed on the near post. Roan received the pass and finished the one-on-one opportunity.
The Jesuit midfield and back line made it very difficult for the Mountain Lion offense, allowing CU to only use two-thirds of the field. Mshelbwala and
George Noubossie dictated the pace of play in the center, while
Dominic Welsh,
Elliott Falconer and
J.J. Hawkshaw led the backs.
WJU goalkeeper
Cody Thompson recorded two saves in the shutout win.
The Cardinals will be on the road for five-straight matches, beginning with Malone University in Canton, Ohio on Wednesday, October 3. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
