Box Score 4 WHEELING, W.Va.---The No. 16 ranked Cardinal volleyball program (14-1, 4-0 WVIAC) hosted the Wheeling Jesuit University Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 21-22. The Cardinals collected four wins during the two-day event, garnering 3-0 victories over Ohio Valley University, Virginia Union University, Cedarville University and West Liberty University.
Wheeling Jesuit opened play on Friday against Ohio Valley, winning by scores 25-8, 25-10 and 25-8, and a few hours later, defeated Virginia Union (25-10, 25-16 and 25-4). Against OVU, the Cardinal attack was evenly balanced as
Jenna Pew posted a team-high eight kills. Jesuit's
Alexa Brown and
Abby Wietrzykowski followed with six kills apiece.
Rachel Gambow added five kills, while
Ashley Remlinger and
Angela McNulty tallied four.
Madison Strall tossed 23 assists.
In Friday's nightcap, the Cardinals were led by Remlinger and Gambow boasted 11 kills each, while McNulty and Early pounded out nine and eight.
Madison Strall kept the offense in motion with a team-best 35 assists.
On day-two, WJU secured the season's 13
th win with 3-0 triumph over Cedarville University by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18. The Cardinals continued to roll, rounding out the invitational with a win over West Liberty (25-12, 25-14 and 25-10). Wietrzykowski led the offense against Cedarville, collecting 14 kills, and
Allissa Ware followed with 12 kills and match-high 17 digs. Strall tossed 20 assists and Ripley recorded 11 digs. In the invitational's final match, Pew registered 10 kills and Ware tallied nine. Strall had 19 assists, and Ripley led with 10 digs.
The Cardinals will travel to Indiana, Pa. on Tuesday, September 25 for in-region battle against Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
