Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in WVIAC play with a 3-2 league victory over the University of Pitt-Johnstown (0-6, 0-2 WVIAC) on the road Wednesday evening.
Wheeling Jesuit controlled the pace of play and started the scoring in the 12
th minute as
Nicolay Netskar found
Luke Roan, who recorded his fourth goal of the season. Jesuit held a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but after the break, UPJ's Derik Swope evened the match on a penalty kick.
With the match deadlocked at one goal apiece,
Ignacio Fernandez sent a ball though the Mountain Cat defense to
Kevin Robson, who finished in the top left corner of the goal, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead with 8:44 left to play. Pitt-Johnstown equalized the game 37-seconds later as Swope netted his second goal of the game from Zeke Buchta.
The stalemate didn't last long as the Cardinals were on the attack when the ball was put back into motion. In the 84
th minute, just 42-seconds after the equalizer, Roan sent a cross into the box, finding Netskar who delivered what proved to be the game winner.
The Cardinals will travel to Slippery Rock, Pa. for a non-conference match against Slippery Rock University on Sunday, September 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
