WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team played host to Clarion University on Tuesday evening at James LaRosa Soccer Complex. After 110 minutes of play, the Cardinals and the Golden Eagles finished in a 0-0 stalemate.
The two teams battled in the first half as the Golden Eagles held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots. With 6:18 showing on the clock, WJU's Jenna Klemkowski lined up for a free kick just outside the 18. Klemkowski sent the shot sailing to the upper left corner, but CU's Laura Saussol was able to get a hand on the ball, denying Jesuit the 1-0 advantage.
After the break, the back-and-forth battle continued as both teams created favorable opportunities to put the ball into the net, however the two keepers denied all attempts. The Cardinals and the Golden Eagles recorded four shots each in the second frame, and by the end of regulation, WJU keeper Holly Kraus collected five saves.
In the first overtime period, Clarion won the possession battle, firing two shots at the frame, and Kraus was there with both the stops. The Golden Eagles continued to attack in the second overtime period, unleashing one shot, and Kraus came up with another save, brining her total to eight.
The Cardinals will play host to the Senators of Davis & Elkins College at James LaRosa Soccer Complex on Saturday, September 15 at 4 p.m.
